If you want to understand how incestuous the link is between the deep state and the liberal media, look no further than an article issued by the Associated Press on October 4th which harshly criticized the Trump administration for seeking to curb caravans of illegal alien border crossers in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Now, one would think that it would be perfectly rational, and even mandatory, for our elected leaders to protect the nation in the time of a pandemic by curbing the unlimited influx of illegal immigrants, many of whom would have the potential of further overloading our strained healthcare system. Yet, these sensible actions by the Trump administration were blasted in an AP article titled “Pence ordered CDC to close borders.”
The article was sparked by accusations made by Olivia Troye, a disgruntled former deputy to Vice President Mike Pence, who coordinated the White House Coronavirus Task Force. According to the article, “She recently resigned in protest saying the administration places politics above public health.”
She was elevated to martyr status by the media as being a whistleblower. And what was the so-called nefarious action of the Trump administration that she heroically exposed? It was the directive from the vice president to force the agency to use its emergency powers to seal the U.S. borders. It was Troye’s opinion, and that of other deep-staters, that the nation should have continued on its path of allowing caravans of tens of thousands of people to flood over our border. They sanctimoniously claimed that “science” was on their side.
Not only is this claim unsubstantiated, but who the heck is Troye and her fellow bureaucrats to think that they have the authority to inject their opinions to supersede decisions made by officials we elected to be accountable to us.
Many of the scientists within the healthcare arena like to tout that they are the pure of heart and care only about science — not politics. That charade was exposed when 1,000 woke healthcare officials called for the termination of protests against governors who were ordering economic shutdowns, but gleefully encouraged people to flood the streets in the midst of a pandemic to protest for “social justice.”
The AP article made it appear that these patriotic deep-staters were only seeking to “do the right thing” but were prevented from doing so by evil politicians asking them to do something illegal or contrary to science.
“‘They forced us,’ said a former health official involved in the process, referring to implementing the immigration slow down. ‘It is either do it or get fired,”‘
They forced you to follow orders. What an outrage! Or, at least it is expressed as such in this article.
The irony, of course, is that the order to curtail the flow of these caravans was implemented precisely to protect our hospitals from getting overrun.
Yet the article painted the administration as heartless, claiming: “The action so far caused nearly 150,000 children and adults to be expelled from the country.”
Well, should not people who come here illegally be denied entry, especially in the midst of an epidemic?
To bolster its “orange man bad” narrative, the article gratuitously adds, “Public health experts say the administration’s pattern of dismissing science-based decision-making in favor of political goals has endangered many …”
The danger they were referring to was not the potential of exposing Americans to further exposure to coronavirus, but rather, the danger in returning the illegal aliens to their countries of origin. The AP sought out the opinion of Dr. Anthony So, a national public health expert at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, who said, “This order directly endangers tens of thousands of lives and threatens to amplify dangerous anti-immigrant sentiment and xenophobia.”
In other words, sending those who crossed over the border illegally back from whence they came is cruel in that it returns them to a dangerous place. Well, Dr. So, welcome to the real world. Half of the world’s population hails from nations that are corrupt, dangerous and poverty stricken. Does this mean the United States must admit all who manage to step their toes over our border? It’s open border nonsense.
And why is a public health official wading into these political waters?
These are the same folks who criticized Trump for curtailing travel from China at the outset of the pandemic on the grounds that it was supposedly xenophobic. They also incorrectly claimed Trump lacked authority to ban entry of those from countries with terrorist ties. (They were wrong, ruled the Supreme Court.)
The AP article wove in the obligatory quotes from the radicals within the ACLU, who expressed concern about the due process rights of those here illegally, but not a word about the health and safety of Americans who might otherwise be shut out of hospitals having to tend to those who shouldn’t be here in the first place.
Said Lee Gelerant, the Deputy Director of the ACLU’s Immigrants Rights Project:
“This is what the Trump administration has been trying to do for four years and they finally saw a window.”
Thank goodness it did. Trump has been able to dramatically reduce the flood of illegal immigration flowing over our border due to Obama’s promise of amnesty and the horrendous liberal court decisions that blocked the Trump administration’s ability to enforce the law in the first three years of his administration.
Trump’s emergency order not only protected us from having to care for potentially thousands of COVID-infected migrants who would cross our border illegally, but finally put an end to the numerous caravans that were straining our system to the point of collapse.
